Some common placement groups I have seen used in PT/PTA:

1.) By Cohort

2.) By Calendar Year

3.) By Academic Year

4.) ICE vs. Full-Time Clinicals

I often see programs using many or all of the above. They all have their own benefits for reporting with filters pre-applied, for targeting different sets of recipients for emails sent through the system, etc.
