Keeping your profile complete and up to date supports the field placement process and ensures that faculty can match you with appropriate learning opportunities.
This guide walks you through each section of your profile, explains how your information is used, and provides best practices to help you maintain an accurate and professional profile throughout your Social Work program.

Overview
Your Student Profile serves as a comprehensive record of your academic, professional, and personal information throughout your Social Work program.
Faculty advisors, field education staff, and placement coordinators use this information to support advising, manage field education activities, and prepare students for successful field placements. Depending on your program's configuration, your profile may also be shared with prospective field agencies during the placement process.
Maintaining an accurate and complete profile helps ensure that agencies receive current information about your qualifications, experience, and professional interests.
About Your Student Profile
Your Student Profile brings together information from multiple areas of Exxat Prism into a single location. While some information is managed by your Social Work program, other sections must be completed and maintained by you throughout your academic journey.
Your profile may include:
Academic Information
Personal Information
Address Information
Professional Summary
Professional Interests
Professional Experience
Contact Information
Emergency Contacts
Additional Profile Details
Communications
Interventions
Some Social Work programs may also enable additional profile sections based on institutional or accreditation requirements.
Why Completing Your Profile Matters
Completing your profile is more than an administrative requirement; it supports your progression through field education and helps your program prepare you for professional practice.
A complete profile enables your Social Work program to:
Maintain accurate student records.
Understand your professional interests and career goals.
Prepare students for field placement.
Share appropriate information with prospective field agencies.
Communicate important updates throughout the academic year.
Support advising and student success initiatives.
For students, maintaining an accurate profile reduces delays during field placement preparation and ensures faculty have access to current information when reviewing placement opportunities.
How Your Student Profile Supports Field Education
Field education is a cornerstone of Social Work education. Your Student Profile provides information that helps faculty understand your background, interests, and readiness for field placement.
Depending on your program's placement process, faculty and field coordinators may review information such as:
Professional interests
Professional summary
Previous work experience
Volunteer experience
Resume
Contact information
Program-specific requirements
If your program shares student profiles with prospective field agencies, maintaining accurate information helps agencies better understand your experience and professional interests before interviews or placement discussions.
Review and update your Professional Summary, Professional Interests, and resume before participating in field placement interviews.
These sections often provide agencies with their first impression of your background and career interests.
How Your Information Is Used
Information stored in your Student Profile supports several academic and administrative processes throughout your Social Work program.
Your information may be used to:
Support academic advising.
Coordinate field education activities.
Match students with field placement opportunities.
Verify student information.
Facilitate communication between students, faculty, and field education staff.
Share approved profile information with prospective field agencies when permitted by your program.
Some information is visible only to faculty and administrators, while other information may be included when your profile is shared externally; visibility of the information depends entirely on your program's configuration and institutional policies.
Program-Specific Configuration
Every Social Work program configures Exxat Prism to meet its own academic, accreditation, and field education requirements.
As a result, you may notice differences such as:
Different profile fields
Required versus optional information
Institution-specific questions
Additional documentation requirements
Customized attestations
Program-specific terminology
For example, one Social Work program may request students to upload a resume, while another program may require students to enter education and work experience directly into Exxat Prism.
Similarly, some programs may collect accommodation information, vaccination records, or background check details through Additional Profile Details, while others may manage this information through separate institutional processes.
If a field or section described in this guide is not available in your Student Profile, it has likely been disabled by your Social Work program.
Before You Begin
Before editing your Student Profile, take a few minutes to prepare the information you plan to enter.
Review your current resume, verify your contact information, and confirm that your current and permanent addresses are accurate.
If your program requires professional interests or a professional summary, consider updating these sections before beginning the field placement process.
If you are unsure about any program-specific requirements, such as vaccination records, background check information, or accommodation details, contact your Field Education Officer or Program Administrator before completing those sections.
Complete your Student Profile as early as possible in the academic term. Keeping your profile current throughout your program reduces last-minute updates during field placement preparation and helps faculty review accurate information when coordinating placements.

Editable fields vary by institution. Your Social Work program determines which profile sections students can update.
Review Your Academic Information
Unlike other sections of your Student Profile, the Academic section is primarily managed by your Social Work program. When you access your profile for the first time, your responsibility is to review the information for accuracy rather than edit it.
This section contains information that helps your program manage your academic progression and field education activities. Although most fields are read-only, it is important to verify that the information accurately reflects your enrollment and program details before proceeding with the rest of your profile.
Academic Information is maintained by your Social Work program. If you notice missing or incorrect information, contact your Field Education Office or Program Administrator instead of attempting to update it yourself.
When reviewing your Academic Information, verify that all displayed information matches your current enrollment.
Check the following:
Student Status
Academic Standing
Enrollment Date
Expected Graduation Date
Assigned Program
Campus (if applicable)
Student Group (if applicable)
Categories (if applicable)
Reviewing this information early helps identify discrepancies before they affect advising, course enrollment, or field placement activities.
Review your Academic Information at the beginning of every academic term and notify your program promptly if any details are incorrect.
Status
Your Status indicates your current standing within your Social Work program.
Depending on your institution, statuses may include:
Active
Inactive
Leave of Absence
Graduated
Most students should see Active while enrolled in coursework and preparing for field education.
If your status does not accurately reflect your enrollment, contact your program immediately.
Enrollment and Graduation Dates
Verify that your enrollment and expected graduation dates are accurate.
These dates help your program:
Monitor academic progression.
Plan field placement schedules.
Determine practicum eligibility.
Support graduation planning.
Incorrect dates may affect placement planning or program reporting.
Groups, Campuses, and Categories
Many Social Work programs organize students into Groups, Campuses, and Categories to simplify advising, reporting, and field placement management.
Depending on how your program is configured, one or more of these fields may appear in your profile.
Groups
Groups help programs organize students based on shared academic characteristics.
For example, students may be grouped by:
Foundation Year
Advanced Standing
Clinical Practice
Macro Practice
Behavioral Health
School Social Work
Cohort
Some programs do not use Groups. If this field is not displayed, your program has chosen not to configure student groups.
Campuses
If your institution offers instruction across multiple locations or learning formats, your profile may display a Campus assignment.
Examples include:
Main Campus
Satellite Campus
Online Program
Regional Campus
Students enrolled in a single-campus program may not see this field.
Categories
Categories allow programs to further organize students.
Examples include:
Full-Time
Part-Time
Traditional Program
Advanced Standing
Behavioral Science Track
Child Welfare Specialization
Categories vary by institution and may be used for reporting, advising, or field education planning.
Groups, Campuses, and Categories are configured by your Social Work program. Their names and availability differ between institutions.
Notes and Documents
Your program may provide important information directly within your Academic Information section.
Examples include:
Student-specific notes
Orientation materials
Field Education Handbook
Program policies
Practicum requirements
Required forms
Additional documents
Review any available notes and download attached documents before beginning the field placement process.
These documents often contain important program expectations and deadlines.
Associated Faculty and Staff
Your profile may display faculty and staff members assigned to support you throughout your program.
Depending on your institution, this may include:
Faculty Advisor
Field Education Coordinator
Field Director
Program Administrator
Placement Coordinator
These contacts can help answer questions related to coursework, advising, practicum preparation, and field placement requirements.
Take a moment to familiarize yourself with these contacts so you know whom to reach out to when assistance is needed.
Agreed Attestation(s)
Some Social Work programs require students to acknowledge one or more attestations before participating in field education activities or sharing profile information with prospective field agencies.
Attestations confirm that you have reviewed and agreed to specific program policies or consent requirements.
Common examples include:
Consent to share your Student Profile with prospective field agencies.
Acknowledgment of program policies and procedures.
Confirmation of student responsibilities.
Agreement to institutional or field education requirements.
To complete an attestation
Login to Exxat Prism using your university credentials.
In the left of the Student Dashboard, navigate to the Needs Attention section.
Locate the required attestation.
Review the statement carefully.
Select I Agree
Once completed, the attestation status is updated in the Academics section of your profile.
Some Social Work programs require specific attestations to be completed before your profile can be shared with field agencies or before certain placement-related activities become available.
Why Attestations Matter
Attestations help ensure that students understand how their information is used throughout the field education process.
For example, your program may request permission to share portions of your Student Profile such as Professional Summary, Professional Interests, and resume with prospective field agencies during placement planning.
Completing these acknowledgments supports a transparent placement process and helps faculty coordinate field education activities more efficiently.
After Reviewing Your Academic Information
Once you have verified your Academic Information and completed any required attestations, you are ready to begin completing the remaining sections of your Student Profile.
The next section explains how to update your personal information, professional summary, professional interests, experience, and contact information to create a complete profile for field education and agency review.
Personal Profile
The Profile tab contains information that you are responsible for completing and maintaining throughout your Social Work program. Unlike the Academic section, which is managed by your program, the information in this section reflects your background, professional interests, and qualifications.
A complete and up-to-date profile helps your faculty advisors and Field Education Office better understand your goals, strengths, and readiness for field education. Depending on your program's configuration and policies, portions of your profile may also be shared with prospective field agencies during the placement process.
Complete your profile as early as possible and review it before each field placement cycle. Keeping your information current helps ensure your profile accurately represents your qualifications and professional interests.
Demographic Information
The Demographic Information section captures basic demographic and identification information required by your Social Work program. Some fields may already be populated by your institution, while others require you to enter or update the information yourself.
Because every Social Work program configures Exxat Prism differently, the fields available to you may vary. Some programs collect additional demographic information, while others may choose not to display certain fields.
Update Your Demographic Information
Review the information displayed in the demographic information section and update the editable fields.
From the Student Dashboard, navigate to the Profile tab.
Locate the Demographic Information section.
Click the Edit icon.
Update the required fields.
Click Save.
Add Your Preferred Name
If your program has enabled this option, you can specify the name you would like faculty and staff to use when communicating with you.
For example, you may choose to display:
A shortened first name
A preferred first name
A professional name
A previous or maiden name (when applicable)
Your preferred name does not replace your official institutional records unless your university has updated those records separately.
Add Pronouns
Your Social Work program may allow you to specify your preferred pronouns.
Providing this information helps faculty and staff communicate respectfully and supports inclusive interactions throughout advising, coursework, and field education.
If this field is unavailable, your program has chosen not to collect this information through Exxat Prism.
Enter Student Identification Information
Depending on your institution, additional identification fields may be available.
Examples include:
University Student ID
National Provider Identifier (NPI), if applicable
Last four digits of your Social Security Number (where required)
These identifiers are used internally by your institution and are generally not visible to prospective field agencies.
Provide only the identification information as requested by your Social Work program.
Update Veteran Status (If Applicable)
Some Social Work programs may ask whether you are a Veteran.
This information may help faculty identify field placement opportunities with agencies that serve veteran populations or participate in veteran-focused initiatives.
Providing this information is optional unless your program designates it as required.
Personal Information Best Practices
Use your legal name unless instructed otherwise by your institution.
Add a preferred name if you regularly use a different name professionally.
Review your demographic information each academic term.
Notify your program if institutional information appears incorrect.
Only complete fields requested by your Social Work program.
Address Information
Maintaining accurate address information helps your Social Work program communicate with you and supports planning for field education activities.
Many programs request both a Current Address and a Permanent Address.
Current Address
Your Current Address should reflect where you are currently living, particularly during your field placement or practicum.
Faculty may use this information when considering placement opportunities within a reasonable commuting distance.
Examples include:
Apartment near campus
Temporary housing during practicum
Off-campus residence
Permanent Address
Your Permanent Address is typically your long-term mailing address.
For many students, this may be:
Family residence
Permanent home address
Address used during academic breaks
Programs may use this address for official correspondence when appropriate.
Add or Update Your Address
From the Student Dashboard, navigate to the Profile tab.
Locate the Address Information section.
Click the Edit icon.
Enter or update your Current Address.
Enter or update your Permanent Address, if different.
Save your changes.
Before beginning field education, verify that your Current Address reflects where you will reside during your placement. This helps your Field Education Office consider travel distance when coordinating placements, where applicable.
Summary
Summary section is your professional summary that introduces you to faculty members and, where permitted by your program, prospective field agencies.
Rather than listing your resume, use this section to describe who you are as an emerging social work professional, your areas of interest, your strengths, and your learning goals.
Think of this section as your response to the interview question:
"Tell me about yourself."
Why Your Professional Summary Matters
Your Professional Summary provides context beyond your academic achievements. It allows readers to understand your interests, experiences, and aspirations within the social work profession.
A thoughtful summary helps faculty and field agencies understand:
Your practice interests
Your professional goals
Your relevant experiences
Your approach to learning
Your strengths as a developing social worker
Write an Effective Professional Summary
Your summary should be concise, authentic, and professionally written.
Consider including:
Your current stage in the Social Work program
Areas of practice that interest you
Relevant volunteer or professional experience
Professional strengths
Career aspirations
What you hope to gain during field education
Example Topics
Rather than describing personal hobbies, focus on professional interests such as:
Behavioral Health
School Social Work
Medical Social Work
Child Welfare
Community Mental Health
Gerontology
Substance Use Services
Crisis Intervention
Policy and Advocacy
Integrated Healthcare
Highlight Your Strengths
You may also use your summary to describe strengths that support your professional development.
Examples include:
Strong communication skills
Empathy
Cultural humility
Team collaboration
Critical thinking
Advocacy
Professional ethics
Leadership
Organization
Whenever possible, support these strengths with examples from coursework, volunteer work, employment, or community engagement.
Describe Your Learning Style
Some Social Work programs encourage students to describe how they learn most effectively.
Examples include:
Learning through observation
Hands-on practice
Reflective supervision
Collaborative learning
Structured feedback
Providing this information can help field instructors understand how best to support your learning experience.
Review and update your Professional Summary before interviewing with field agencies. Your interests, goals, and experiences may evolve throughout your program, and your summary should reflect your current professional direction.
Areas of Professional Interests
The Areas of Professional Interests section helps your Social Work program understand the types of practice settings and populations that interest you.
Programs may use this information when reviewing placement preferences or preparing students for agency interviews. Depending on your program's field education process, these interests may also be shared with prospective field agencies.
Select Your Professional Interests
Navigate to the Professional Interests section.
Click Edit icon.
Select the areas that best reflect your current professional interests.

Keep Your Interests Current
Professional interests often evolve as students progress through coursework and field education.
Review your selections:
Before field placement planning
Before agency interviews
After completing a field placement
When your career goals change
Keeping this section current helps ensure your profile accurately reflects your professional aspirations.
Align Your Interests with Placement Goals
Choose interests that genuinely reflect the type of learning experience you hope to gain.
For example:
Students pursuing clinical practice may select Behavioral Health, Community Mental Health, or Substance Use Services.
Students interested in school settings may select School Social Work.
Students interested in advocacy or systems change may select Policy Practice or Community Development.
Your selections should represent your professional interests rather than every area you find interesting.
Before interviewing with a field agency, review your Professional Interests to ensure they align with the agency's area of practice. A profile that accurately reflects your interests helps faculty and agencies better understand your placement goals and supports more meaningful field education opportunities.
After completing your Personal Profile, continue building your professional profile by adding your education, work experience, resume, licenses, memberships, and contact information.
These sections help provide a comprehensive overview of your qualifications and prepare your profile for advising, field education planning, and potential agency review.
Resume
Many Social Work programs request a current resume as part of the field placement preparation process.
Your resume provides faculty and prospective field agencies with a concise overview of your education, employment, volunteer activities, leadership experiences, and relevant skills.
Navigate to the Resume section.
Click Browse to Upload.
Select the appropriate file.
Verify that the upload is complete.
Save your changes.
Use a professionally formatted resume and update it before each field placement cycle to include recent coursework, volunteer experiences, certifications, and leadership activities.
Resume Recommendations for Social Work Students
Your resume should highlight experiences that demonstrate your readiness for professional practice.
Consider including:
Field education or practicum experience

Community engagement
Research activities
Leadership roles
Student organizations
Relevant employment
Certifications
Languages spoken

Some Social Work programs ask students to upload a resume, while others require students to enter this information directly into Exxat Prism. In most cases, your program will require one approach rather than both.
The Work Experience sections availability depends on your Social Work program's configuration. Some institutions may enable only selected sections.

Social service organizations
Healthcare settings
Schools

Examples include:
Languages spoken
Research experience
Publications
Presentations
Awards
Leadership recognition
Technology skills
Specialized training
Only include information that supports your professional development and field education goals.
Keep your resume and Professional Experience section consistent. If you update one, review the other to ensure that both accurately reflect your current qualifications.
Manage Your Contact Information

Enter the requested information.
Save your changes.
Typical information includes:
Name
Relationship

Why Emergency Contacts Are Important
Field education often takes place in community organizations, hospitals, schools, behavioral health centers, correctional facilities, and other practice settings.
Maintaining accurate emergency contact information helps your program respond appropriately if an unexpected situation occurs while you are participating in field education activities.
Keep Your Contact Information Current
Review your contact information:
At the beginning of every academic term
Before field placement begins
After changing your phone number
After changing your email address
After relocating during the academic year
Keeping this information current helps prevent delays in receiving important program communications.
